The Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) works with the School Board, administrators, parents and teachers who are responsible for students receiving special education services.

The role of the rep is to attend meetings and provide monthly updates to the PTA informing our school community of upcoming events, activities and news of special interest. 

  

When Are Meetings?

SEAC usually meets monthly during the school year on the first Wednesday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. Meetings are held in Room 100 at the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Administrative Building, 2100 Education Court, Ashburn. There is a presentation at each meeting of interest to parents, staff, and educators. Please check the website at http://www.lcps.org, click “parents”, then select Special Education Advisory Committee confirm current meeting dates and presentation topics.

Who May Attend Meetings?

All meetings are open to the public. SEAC welcomes anyone interested in special education. There is a designated time for public comment during the meeting. This is an opportunity to share successful educational experiences and express general concerns regarding educational issues for students with disabilities.

What Does SEAC Do?

  • Advise the local school system of the needs in the education of children with disabilities.
  • Assist the local school system in the development of long-range plans which will provide needed services for children with disabilities.
  • Submit periodic reports and recommendations regarding the education of children with disabilities to the local school board.
  • Review annually the school system’s updated special education plan and application for federal funding.

How Do We Do It?

  • Informative presentations for parents and educators at the monthly meetings;
  • Provide helpful and timely information via the SEAC website and Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/loudounseac). The web page is located at http://www.lcps.org, click “Parents”, then select Special Education Advisory Committee.
  • Recognition for Excellence in Supporting Special Education Awards Program. This year’s award ceremony will be held on May 17, 2017;
  • Invites each school to appoint a SEAC representative.

The Loudoun County Parent Resource Center is a place for parents and professionals can come to learn about a variety of disabling conditions, the Special Ed process, and resources available to special needs students and their families or families who are experiencing difficulties in school, home, or the community.
